¡Hola Wikimania Hackathon Participants!

(All important information - please read! :)

If you are receiving this email, you are registered for at least one of the days of the Wikimania Hackathon in Mexico City, which will be taking place between Wednesday July 15 - Friday July 17.

Hackathon 101/Information for people new to the Wikimedia Movement

  • We will have some introductory sessions at the beginning of the hackathon to help you meet people and get oriented. These include but are not limited to the following:

- Hackathon Opening Plenary Session: https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T91623 (this should be attended by everybody)

- Introduction to Wikimedia tech: https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T102238

- Introduction to Phabricator: https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T102195

Add your Sessions to the Schedule

The schedule is up and if you are planning to run a session you can now add it to the schedule. Make sure to read the entire "schedule" section before you add your sessions.

Hacking Projects

If you are planning to work on a hacking project, please do both of the following:

  • Create a phabricator task and associate it with Wikimania-Hackathon-2015.

Make sure to include information in your Phabricator Task to help people you have not worked with before know exactly what you are doing and how they can help.

Everyone should feel free to start getting involved with posted projects by subscribing, awarding tokens, and commenting on the Phabricator task in advance of the hackathon.

Buddy System

We will be having an optional buddy system in Mexico City.

To participate please add yourself to this page: https://wikimania2015.wikimedia.org/wiki/Hackathon/Buddies

Ideally people will proactively reach out to each-other and pair up without the help of the event organizers. This would be something very helpful you could do in advance of the hackathon.

Help us! Further Newbie Support:

If you would like to be an even greater resource for newbies at the hackathon and feel like you are willing and able to help newcomers find projects and meet people in a more official capacity please add yourself to this "volunteers" list: https://wikimania2015.wikimedia.org/wiki/Hackathon#Volunteers

The hackathon organizers will be in touch providing further guidance for how you can help.

Thank you for reading this email! We are looking forward to a very successful event.

Les quedamos muy agradecidos por su colaboración!
