With these basic assumptions in mind one can start thinking how to use this to gain more free culture.

For Wikimedia Sverige applications for external funding is about much more than just money added for the fiscal year (but of course we have goals for that)! The work with applications for external funding is a central part of our work in order to expand our influence, develop new projects, create more new free content, and find new partners (or improve existing partnerships). We have actively been doing for external funding for a few years now and we have learnt a lot on the way that I would like to share and talk about.

I will present the underlying rationale, our strategy and a few concrete examples where we think this have worked favorably. And of course a few practical points on what to think about. The goal is to inspire chapters and other free knowledge organizations about the possibilities and give them a few tools. During the presentation a number of questions will be touched upon: What have proven successful? What do you need to think about when starting the process? How can work be coordinated between chapters? How can the work be streamlined to reduce work load? How much do you still need to invest? What do you get for your Investment? Is it even an added cost? What are the risks involved? And what the heck is the Ikea effect – and how is that connected to any of this?

Chapters in both rich and poor countries will find use of this presentation. The possibilities exists everywhere thanks to international donors and funds.
