- Abstract (at least 300 words to describe your proposal)
The cooperiation between Wikimedia Polska and Polish GLAM institutions began around 2007. The beginnings were difficult mainly due to a somewhat conservative attitude of most GLAMs. However, over time Polish galleries, museums, archives and libraries became increasingly open. The keystone was the OpenGlam conference organized in 2013 at Zachęta National Gallery. By the end of 2014, several continuous GLAM cooperations have been established, among others: Central Archives of Historical Records, Senate of Poland and the State Archive in Poznan. In late 2014, Wikimedia Polska hired a GLAM coordinator and established a regular GLAM program, which has expanded enormously into a number of new cooperation projects: the Museum of Polish Jews, Museum of Warsaw Uprising, State Museum of Ethnography in Warsaw, European Center of Solidarity in Gdańsk, Museum of Art in Łódź, State Archive in Łodź, Burszta Archive in Poznań and several other minor projects based on diverse collaboration models.
Our aim is to show the history, current achievements and goals of the Polish Wikimedia GLAM project, concentrating on current project status (2014/2015) and goals for 2016. We would like to present various models of collaboration with art galleries, national/regional museums and digital archives; varying approaches to projects depending on their scale and capabilities of participating institutions (i.e. level of the institution's engagement; copyright clearance status; Wikipedians' involvement in the project; creating new content at the institution versus making already digitised content available on Commons; etc). We will discuss the motivations behind employing a GLAM coordinator and discuss the outcomes.
Along with projects overview, we want to briefly present technical aspects of GLAM-related Wikimedia Commons mass media upload tools and problems with enabling them for specific institutions having different needs.
